Silver City Racing Club
The origins of this club date back 22nd April 1931 when the licenced Victualler's Racing Club and Broken Hill Jockey Club amalgamated to become Silver City Racing Club. Race meetings were held weekly and crowds in the thousands patronised Broken Hill Racecourse each race day for many years before these meetings became a 3 weekly event.

The club ceased racing under instructions from the Australian Jockey Club in 1987 due to falling nominations and dwindling gate attendances making the meeting unviable. After a number of years in recess, a new and active committe of the Silver City Racing Club was elected in March 1977.

Approval to recommence racing was granted by the New South Wales Country Racing Council. The club then became eligible for some financial support under the scheme of distribution from the thoroughbred racing board of New South Wales, as were all race clubs within the state.

In their wisdom, because of the popularity, prestige and attraction held previously by

White Cliffs is unique! There is more to be discovered than opal in them thar hills!

Precious seam opal was discovered in White Cliffs in the 1890's and opal from this field was the first to be marketed overseas (giving White Cliffs the distinction of being known as Australia's first Commercial Opal field).

Opal as a gem has long been admired; the Romans considered opal a symbol of hope - a gem with 'a rainbow locked inside'. The Arabs also had an affinity with opal believing the gemstone fell from heaven in flashes of lightning. Shakespeare, too, had a word to say about opal, calling it 'the queen of gems'.
Scientifically, the brilliant colours of opal are produced by the diffraction of light in the layers of silica spheres in its composition.
As the Roman historian Pliny wrote opal had 'the fire of the carbuncle, the brilliant purple of the amethyst and the sea-green colour of the emerald, all shining together in incredible union'. It is little wonder miners have lo

Bells Milk Bar
People have been travelling from far and wide to Bells Milk Bar for 'out of this world' malted milks and soda spiders for generations. Once upon a time, many old milk bars and cafes in Australia made the bases for all their drinks by hand. At Bells, all our authentic syrups are still handmade here on the premises in Patton Street to Les Bell's Famous Secret Recipe, just like they have since 1892 when the business was founded by Fredrick Fenton, a confectioner and cordial maker. The result is worth bottling!

About Bells Milk Bar & Museum

Bells Milk Bar is an in tact 1950's milk bar in South Broken Hill (thanks to Les and Mavis Bell's 1956 renovation). Broken Earth Cafe & restaurant is open for lunch and dinner 7 days a week year round except for Christmas day.

The Broken Earth Cafe & Restaurant has an exclusive bird’s eye view of Broken Hill as it sits on top of the now dormant Line of Lode, or ore body that runs through the middle of the town.

You will find a visitors centre and gift shop with souvenirs promoting the local area and entry to the miner’s memorial which was erected several years ago in memory to those who died in the mines in and around Broken Hill.

Jetset started as a small one-man travel agency in Sunshine, Victoria in the early 1960's and became the forerunner of one of the most recognisable brands and largest travel companies. By the closing of the 1970's offices were opening the UK, Singapore and USA where Jetset launched it's own holiday program to the Orient, South America and the South Pacific with the UK office launching holiday tours to Australia. Plus Jetset was the official agency to handle all ticketing arrangements for Australians attending the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal and repeated again in 1980 for the Moscow Games and the LA Games of '84.

By 1980, Jetset had become Australia's largest provider of international holiday travel programmes, followed by expansion through New Zealand and programs to Asia, Europe, and North America.

Menindee Information
The Menideee lakes have the capacity to hold three and a half times the volume of Sydney Harbour, and seven and a half times the area.

No wonder the town of Menideee on the banks of the tree lined Darling River is an oasis in the outback . The sunsets are gorgeous: artists and photographers take note.

Menindee sits amongst approximately 12 overflow lakes of the Menindee lakes storage scheme. River red gums shade the shoreline and the skies fill with the colour and noise of birds.

This is one of the finest freshwater fishing spots in NSW, with Murray cod, golden perch (yellow belly), silver perch, catfish and yabbies. (A lazy afternoon angling under a red gum could be your idea of heaven)

The lakes and river are great for water sports: water skiing, sailing and swimming. Copi Hollow, a man made lake has been developed for speedboats.

Bring your binoculars the lakes and surrounding wetlands are an important habitat for over 200 different bird species, among them many w

Milparinka History
The first proclaimed Alnbert Goldfields township, Milparinka is sited on the edge of the Eveltn Creek.

Charles Sturt had camped nearby at Preservation Creek for six months in 1845 and it was he who named a nearby gum creek, Evelyn Creek. Later Mount Browne Goldfields miners camped on the banks. They chose this spot, as the waterhole in the creek gave them much needed water.

At first this was a shanty town of several hundred souls huddled in huts and tents. Before long though civilisation caught with the gold boom. By the mid 1880s the town boasted a police office, newspaper, chemist, blacksmith, photographer, two butchers, four hotels, a school, a hospital and a general store. But by mid 1920s the golden years were only a memory.

In the 21st century Milparinka has bought its boom town years alive again with a heritage centre in the courthouse, a native plants park and a heritage walking trail.

Peterborough Railway Hotel/Motel
Peterborough's railway history means you can't visit the town without having a drink and a meal at the Railway Hotel/Motel. If you indulge a little too much, you can also stay over at the pub. In the modern motel section, there's a spa suite. It opened in December 1891 and has always been known as the Railway. These days Ann and Chris Branson are dishing up frequent doses of country South Australian hospitality. The Railway is a charming building with loads of character that is located opposite the railway station.
Many original features remain, but they've been upgraded to preserve their glory. The pub's dining room has chandeliers.
With three bars to pick from , it's not hard to get a drink and they're big on pizzas too - they're all made and cooked on-site.
You can dine in or take away and on the weekends, they can even bring pizza to your car if you are driving through the bottleshop.
"If you think the outside is great, you should have a look at the inside," sai

From age seven, Pro loved to sketch and paint. He began taking his gift seriously in his early twenties when he first used painting as a creative outlet to keep him sane from underground life as a miner. To develop his gift, Pro attended a few local art classes but is mainly self-taught. He was discovered in 1962 by a gallery director in Adelaide. From there his success as an artist began to flourish.

At the Pro Hart gallery you are able to view the works created over the years by Pro as he has experimented with different techniques and styles. Collectors are able to purchase original paintings and works on paper for their own collections.
