Jetset Broken Hill
Phone: 8087 3310
Fax: 08 8087 8175
Email: jetsetbhq@iinet.net.au
Jetset is one of Australia's most trusted and well respected brands, with over 40 years travel experience and over 400 travel agencies represented throughout Australia.
Jetset started as a small one-man travel agency in Sunshine, Victoria in the early 1960's and became the forerunner of one of the most recognisable brands and largest travel companies. By the closing of the 1970's offices were opening the UK, Singapore and USA where Jetset launched it's own holiday program to the Orient, South America and the South Pacific with the UK office launching holiday tours to Australia. Plus Jetset was the official agency to handle all ticketing arrangements for Australians attending the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal and repeated again in 1980 for the Moscow Games and the LA Games of '84.
By 1980, Jetset had become Australia's largest provider of international holiday travel programmes, followed by expansion through New Zealand and programs to Asia, Europe, and North America. During these mid 80's Jetset pioneered the use of video technology to develop video brochures for each major destinations to be used by the travel agency network and prospective travellers. This had never been done before and was used as a benchmark for use in many other industries.Jetset had also established its own travel industry training college, as by the end of this decade Jetset had 270 semi-branded Jetset Travel Centres and a staff of over 3000 in Australia alone.
The 1990's bought massive change to the Jetset business when the domestic pilots strike crippled the local travel industry, along with the recession Australia was experiencing. Plus the Gulf War began in 1991 which had a huge impact on the company with customers travel arrangements either interrupted or cancelled on an international scale.
Over the next two years Jetset rebuilt its business to a turnover of over $1billion annually. Jetset became a franchisor and fully branded their travel outlets under franchise agreements. During this period Jetset entered into the holiday technology market, a 24 hours a day system for reservations, inventories and accounting, called Worldmaster. It was launched internationally and accessed by over 250,000 users worldwide, and became a winner of the Export Achievement awards.
As the new millennium got into swing a new piece of history was written when ownerships changed and Jetset Retail Travel was purchased from Jetset Tours Pty Ltd by Heartlink as part of several acquisitions and agreements to establish the largest network of travel centres in Australia. The horrendous events of September 11 and the ultimate demise of Ansett Australia and its subsidiary Traveland became the catalyst for the company to secure the Traveland franchise centres, adding 180 of the former Traveland sites to the group.
In 2002 Sintak Pty Ltd made a take over offer and are now the major shareholders of the Jetset Travelworld Group as it is called today.
With over 700 retail travel agencies within the network, Jetset Travelworld is the largest retail distribution group in Australia.
Today, Jetset's travel consultants have an enormous wealth of experience and extensive knowledge available to share with you.
To travel is one of the most exciting, rewarding and educational experiences anyone can do in a lifetime, let us take this journey with you when planning your next holiday itinerary.

Paroo Darling National Park
Phone: 08 8083 7900
Website: www.nationalparks.com.au
The Visitor Centre at White Cliffs is the best place to begin a visit to Paroo-Darling National Park. Take your time and learn more about the local people, places, and life. Located at a key crossroad in White Cliffs, our clean, green building is solar powered and energy efficient to minimise its impact on the surrounding area. Roads within the park may be closed after rain. Paroo-Darling National Park is fast becoming known for its mound springs and continually changing Peery Lake, cycling as it does through flood and drought and back again. Once filled, the lake can hold water for three years. The result is a spectacular inland playground for up to 50 000 water birds each day. A day use area is being established at Peery Lake.
Camping is available at the Coach and Horses campground at Wilga. Enjoy an authentic bush camping experience, beside the river that once enticed early settlers and brought the river boats here. You'll need to bring your own fresh water, we provide gas BBQs, pit toilets and the night sky. No wood fires are allowed in Paroo-Darling National Park. Camping fees apply. A self registration system allows for payment of fees.

From age seven, Pro loved to sketch and paint. He began taking his gift seriously in his early twenties when he first used painting as a creative outlet to keep him sane from underground life as a miner. To develop his gift, Pro attended a few local art classes but is mainly self-taught. He was discovered in 1962 by a gallery director in Adelaide. From there his success as an artist began to flourish.
At the Pro Hart gallery you are able to view the works created over the years by Pro as he has experimented with different techniques and styles.
Collectors are able to purchase original paintings and works on paper for their own collections.

Kevin "Bushy" White
Bushy White was born in Broken Hill in 1943 and spent 26 years working on the local mines, experiencing mining, comradeship with mates and being surrounded by the magnificent minerals that are found only under the "Hill". Bushy uses these unique minerals to create artworks by crushing them up and applying them to a board using several types of glue. His subject is local history: beautiful buildings; 72 pubs; churches and the mines. Using and obtaining these minerals became a real challenge - even today you are not allowed to bring mineral samples up from underground. In 1987 Bushy was given some mine timber and used this to build White's Mineral Art and Living Mining Museum in Broken Hill. A visit to the museum will take one on an illustrated journey through the architectural and mining history of the city. Bushy's mineral paintings are complimented with many rare mining artefacts, underground memorabilia and models of mine sites.
White's Mineral Art and Living Mining Museum
Nominal entry fee (concessions for families) Open daily 9am-5pm
Enjoyment for all family. Go underground, without going under to see crushed mineral collage artworks depicting mining equipment past and present, legend of Sturts Desert Pea, local historical buildings and landscapes. Minerals for sale, souvenirs, opals, jewellery, dolls and bear display. Tea, coffee and soft drinks available.

Bells Milk Bar
People have been travelling from far and wide to Bells Milk Bar for 'out of this world' malted milks and soda spiders for generations. Once upon a time, many old milk bars and cafes in Australia made the bases for all their drinks by hand. At Bells, all our authentic syrups are still handmade here on the premises in Patton Street to Les Bell's Famous Secret Recipe, just like they have since 1892 when the business was founded by Fredrick Fenton, a confectioner and cordial maker. The result is worth bottling!
About Bells Milk Bar & Museum
Bells Milk Bar is an in tact 1950's milk bar in South Broken Hill (thanks to Les and Mavis Bell's 1956 renovation). It is famous for its quirky decor and the old fashioned milkshakes and soda spiders served here, as well as the new milk bar museum and an ever increasing range of 'out of this world' snacks and treats, gift items and old style lollies including new home made traditional fudge.
During Broken Hill's mining hey days of the 1950s and 1960s Bells was regularly packed out and people were known to line up halfway down the street on a Sunday afternoon for a cool drink.
Despite the huge demand for the Bells drinks over the years, they have only recently been bottled for retail sale.
Apart from their good old fashioned quality, many of these flavours are simply not available anywhere else! For your best 'taste' of Broken Hill and Outback NSW history, try some Bells Syrups and Cordials today!
Some of the other discoveries at Bells include:
Milk Bar Museum
Nostalgia Gift Shop
Hand Made Traditional Fudge
Fresh Baked Waffles Ice Cream and Syrup
Other Traditional Desserts and Treats
Free Wireless Internet (You'll need your own Laptop)

After a day spent travelling off-the-beaten-track there is a comfortable bed, hot shower and a hearty meal waiting in a bush pub or on a remote sheep station - a great place to have a yarn with some real Aussies. Our driver guides are experienced men who were born and bred on the land: they love the Outback and know what it is like to live and work there.
