Avoca Homestead was built in 1871 of wood & log pine construction. In 1878 a stone extension was added. Large rooms with high ceilings are characteristic of the period, and wood fires burn brightly during winter. The wide verandahs provide a view across lawns sloping down to the river. Today Avoca is a landmark of the area having now lived in three centuries.
Extensive gardens, jacaranda and peppercorn trees surround the homestead, beyond which stand original out-buildings, including a gardeners cottage.
Mod-grass Tennis Court, Fishing, Bush walking - see beautiful wild flowers and native fauna, Bird watching - Well over 100 species have been spotted here, Sky Watching - Sun & moon rise over the Darling River, stars fill the night sky, Music - a selection of vinyl records, tapes & CDs and an old piano.
Accommodation in the Homestead includes all meals. Accommodation in the Cooks Cottage and/or Jackeroos Quarters is self-contained, using the separate Cooks Kitchen which doubles as a dining room. Camp sites are available on the river.
Avoca Homestead is the ideal place to get away from the rat race and recharge the batteries.
